Christmas Tatting - Tea Pots 25/25 motif challenge

Hi,
As some of you are aware Somerset and the South West have been hit very badly by the weather just before christmas,  I guess we are lucky as we live high up on the mendips but I feel really sorry for those who have been flooded and those who live on the Somerset levels,   which is the area most hit by the rain,   it just never stops raining.  They were pumping off the water from the levels into the rivers for weeks at 10 tons of water per second,  that was until the last lot of rain and they stopped pumping because of the amount of rain coming down was filling the rivers too much for the water being pumped off, so now the pumps are on when they can and river level lets them pump.
There was a lot of flooding in Cornwall and Devon which were cut off by the rail as the lines were flooded and wash away in places,   the force of the water buckled the lines outside Exeter,  the repairs were done over christmas so they could get the lines up and running for travellers who wanted to travel.
All in all its been a wash out christmas with many homes flooded,  roads flooded and damaged by the water,  its still raining outside so who knows when it will stop.  My garden is just washed out and looking very sorry for itself.   Perhaps we are lucky it was not snow as we would be snowed in.
Enough of our terrible weather, and on a lighter note,  for Christmas I was given Tea is for Tatting by Martha Ess,  I love her Introduction and I quote " What is more delightful than a good old fashioned cup of tea, whether a brisk English Breakfast, a soothing Chamomile or my favourite Earl Grey?  It takes time to brew a proper cup of tea - time to boil the water, patience to let the leaves steep to perfection.  Tatters embrace a craft that takes time and patience, as well, to produce their works of art"  Well Martha they are the truest words I have read in a long time but just one thing,  I hate tea, cant stand it.

This lovely pattern is called Tiny Square Teapot I have used Lizbeth no 20 in Falling Leaves, simply I had the thread on the shuttles.
This pattern is called Antique Rose Tea Set but so far I have only tatted the tea pot.  It was tatted in a lemon no 20 but in the photo it looks white but I can reassure you it is lemon.
The light today is bad so I used the coffee table as the background and then the camera automatically used the flash.  I do like this pattern I have not sewn in the ends as I finished it last night and the light was not good enough to sew them in.

I was also given the book Tatting with Rings by Jon Yusoff,    so far I have read the book but not done any patterns that's for when I have time to play,  it an interesting book with some lovely patterns,   just got to sort out some plastic rings.
                                              ---ooOoo--

This beautiful bookmark was sent to me from Wendy,   its from the book Playing with Picots.  the thread is gorgeous and is hand dyed from Jess at Tat-ilicious link to her blog.  The thread is called rainbow-ilicious,  which is on Jess's Esty store.
You can see this beautiful bookmark on Wendy's blog it looks a lot better than the picture I managed to take,  she called it  Sunrise Sunset bookmark,  link to her blog
Thank you Wendy I will treasure this beautiful bookmark.

The teapots finish my 25 motif challenge,   I am going to start another 25 motif challenge after the New Year.
Until we meet again take care, keep dry, and stay safe.

These were tatted in Oren Bayan Koton Perle no 8.
This is the number 24 of the 25motif  tatting challenge,  which covers all the snowflakes from day one to today day 20.   I hope to finish the challenge by the new year and start again with a new motif   challenge next year.
I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and hope you have enjoyed my snowflake countdown to Christmas where ever you are and what ever you do this christmas please stay safe and have an enjoyable christmas.

Vernon's Christmas Card

Hi,

This is my last christmas card and as always its for my Husband,   as we have a Robin in the garden I thought this pair of Robins would be nice,   he likes Robins.  I think this image is off the Joanna Sheens Enchanted Christmas CD,  the backing paper was free from a magazine no idea which now,  I matted it all on red miri board, put gold peel off's to finish it off,   With thanks to Suzanne who made these die cuts for me, and I place white gem stones in the middle of the poinsettia and the ribbon is from Joanna Sheens on line shop.  We exchanged cards this morning to which he gave me a beautiful Christmas card.
If you are blog hopping please pop over to Suzanne blog link here she has posted the snowflakes I sent her in her tree and they are looking lovely, thank you Suzanne for showing them.
Tomorrow I have the final snowflakes so if you have time please pop over and have a look.
Until we meet again take care and if you coming to the South West please don't bother the railways are stopping at Taunton. The rails lines to Cornwall and Devon are not working due to flooding, landslides,   many roads are flooded,  so if you are travelling please take care.
There is more rain forecasted for the South West tonight we still have a lot of amber warnings in force for flooding,  and many rivers have brust there banks.
               Hugs
             Margaret

Snowflake Countdown to Christmas Challenge - Day19

Hi

Day 19

Today's snowflake is called Graces Cherry Blossom Snowflake,  by Grace from intatters,  I did just change one thing,  she has designed it making a hearts in the snowflake,   I put an extra few double stitches so the chain now reads 6-2-5+ join to previous p on the same chain)2-6  I felt the extra stitches made the heart look a little more like a heart.  tatted in Lizbeth thread no 20.  this a another great pattern from Grace who is just starting to design.

Snowflake Countdown to Christmas Challenge - Day 18

 Hi,
Day 18

Today's snowflake is a Snow Crystal deigned by Diane from Lace-lovin Librarian.  the first one is with a doodad,  I think it was too big but this was the only one I had which came from a pair of earring I brought to strip off and use for tatting.   So I thought about it and made a ring of 12p separated by 2ds  with a gold bead in the centre,   and then a split ring into the next round.  I put gold seed beads on the picots in the chain,  only I they show up very well.   Hope Diane likes my Snow Crystal.

Snowflake Countdown to Christmas Challenge - Day 17

Hi
Day 17
Great minds think alike they say and when I finished tatting this snowflake I looked at Allison's blog (yes she started this challenge) link to her blog she had done the same snowflake,  well here's mine,
This is a Celtic snowflake from Jon called Quantiesque snowflake. I quote from the pattern "If you are wondering about the name,  here is the explanation for it.  I was transfixed by the effects of the centre which is a take of the Mary Quant logo of the 60's.  The actual MQ logo has five petals"  yes she goes on to say she remembers those days well so do I. Link to Jon's blog
I used Oren Bayen Koton Perle Thread no 8 in white and yellow variegated which goes from very pale yellow to gold.  I have not tried off my ends but I hope you like it.  Its tatted in two half's then put together by weaving the pieces together and then the edge is tatted around.

Snowflake Countdown to Christmas - Day 16

Hi,
Day 16

Today's snowflake is from Easy Tatting Book page 18 called Five-inch Snowflake,  I am not that keen on this one its too open and long chains,  it needs something but what I don't know.  As with all the snowflakes I have tatted it in Lizbeth no 20,   I don't think even a smaller thread would make it better it just too open for me.   What do you think?

With Love at Christmas

Hi,
This is the second post of the day and its pouring with rain blowing a gale and with a flood warning for the South west which includes Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset for today and tomorrow,  do we really need any more rain,  sorry to say No anyone out there short of water we can supply water by the ton. I just hope we don't get any real flooding in the places that are just being to recover from the last several floods.
Today's card is for our Grand daughter Dan she is now living at home with Gary and we are so pleased,  she came home in the summer, found herself a job, got into college and learning to drive.  So this card was made with love and I am entering it into the Joanna Sheens challenge called with Love at Christmas link here to her blog.
The backing paper was from my stock the images are from the Glitter and Glitz Art Deco Christmas CD by Debbi Moore Designs. which I matted onto red card and then put a gold peel off edging around and around the outside of the card,   finished the card off with red ribbon from the Joanna Sheens on-line shop.
I hope she likes her card.
Hope you are staying dry, take care

The CD Sunday Challenge - Frosty Days

 Hi,
The second post of the day, its not often you get two posts in one day.  This is my card for this weeks CD Sunday Challenge - Frosty Days.  to be honest I could have taken my garden as yesterday it was not only frosty and completely white but we also had a Hoar Frost so the trees were beautifully painted in frost.
This card I used Joanna Sheens Enchanted Christmas CD for the backing paper and her Thomas Kinkade 3d image.
I glittered the image with an inch of its life so I was pleased that you can see the glitter nothing worse than glittering an image and it does not show up.
I put matted the 3d image on a strip of backing paper and silver miri board with a dull silver card corner piece that is embossed with Merry christmas and Christmas trees,   finished off with Joanna Sheens red ribbon from her on line shop and seasons greeting in red peel off.
I hope you are enjoying the daily snowflakes in the countdown to christmas,  I hoping to keep going with the last one on Christmas Eve.
Until we meet again take care.
                  Hugs

Snowflake Countdown to Christmas Challenge

 Hi
It worked today,  so here is the snowflake I was bring you yesterday,  On the 1st December Alison started doing a snowflake per day until Christmas.   Well I had planned to do this and then as she had started it I decided not to go ahead with my plans as it might look as copying,   then Diane stated and Alison challenged us blogger's to do a snowflake every day up to Christmas    well I hope I can bring you one every day, you might even get an angel. Link to Alison blog is here  and link to Diane's blog is here
Day one is Flocon d'Or by Joelle Paulson link to here blog  here.here   This is a beautiful snowflake and I am going to use it on my  Christmas cards,  for those who are going to get one you did not read that OK.
Day Two this is today's snowflake its called Wheel of Nine Rings from the book called Christmas Angels and other Tatting Patterns by Monica Hahn.
Both snowflakes are tatting in Lizbeth thread no 20
More rain forecasted for Somerset,  the village on a small hill in the levels of Somerset that has been cut off since the flooding is still cut off and they are pumping ten tones of water per minute off the levels and into the River Tone.  Please who ever did the rain dance could you now do a sun dance the ground can't take any more water,  its just so wet its mud.
Hope you stay dry
Until we meet again Take care

Inspired by Nature

 Hi,
From a very cold and wet Somerset,  the sun has been shining today but with all the flood water and yet more rain forecasted for next week its going to time for life in parts of Somerset to get back to normal.  Today I bring you my card for two challenges this week,
On the CD Sunday Challenge blog its Inspired by Nature link here  and I am also entering this card into the Joanna Sheens Challenge Blog Anything goes excluding Christmas link here
Well this week I have used Joanna Sheens CD called The Pamela West Collection,   I love this CD its full of some wonderful images and it was hard to choose but in the end I used this bridge,    I used the backing paper from the image, and then 3d the image using one corner of the picture to layer it up.
The pink and white roses on a flourish with gold peel off butterflies and gold peel off corners to finish off the card.
I have heard that my friend Janette is ill I do hope you get better soon, I am missing you on blogger.
Until we meet again take care and hope you are staying dry and not flooded out.
Hugs
Margaret

Rain, rain, rain, and tatting mentioned in my reading book

Hi,
From a very wet Somerset,   I am sorry I have nothing to show you today,  but just to let you know we are dry even if they garden is looking very very wet and sorry for itself.   We have acres upon acres of water,  farmland, and  the levels just covered in water.
We managed to get to Oxfordshire yesterday,  Vernon's Dad is in hospital at Bicester, we did go though some flood water in places not very deep and we got there in one piece.   This green and pleasant land as they call England is more like a water wilderness, in some places its hard to see where the rivers should be and where the fields are.
Dads doing well and seems to have got over his infection,   Mother seems to have had the same infection and she's a lot better.   Me I am still waiting for an appointment.
At the moment I am reading a book called The Ironmaster by Jean Stubbs,  it says it is a continuing the splendid Lancastrian saga of the Howarth's of Garth.   The book was published in 1981 (ISBN 0 330 26636 5)  Part one Man on His Mettle 1785-1793,  the print is small.   In chapter two "The ladies of Thornton House pursue their course in life unchanged,  he continues to tell his sister that they are managing without another teacher as she used to teach Latin and Greek to the young ladies.,  he continues "One feels your learning was too much for the Misses Whitehead,  they would rather their female charges tatted and tattled than studied ancient languages!"
I am only on chapter three and long way to go as the book is quick thick, I will let you know if tatting is mentioned again,   its not very often you see tatting mentioned in any book other than a proper tatting book.
Until we meet again keep dry and please whoever you are that did the rain dance for rain when they said we were short of water,   can you please stop and so a sun dance.
                        Hugs
                     Margaret

The CD Sunday Challenge - Layer it up

Hi,
What a day yesterday,  it has just rained and rained all night,   yesterday Vernon went to the Royal United Hospital,  we had a wet journey ,  the appointment went well and he has to go back in four months.  Today we had to go into Frome this afternoon,  after a morning of rain,  the roads had a lot of surface water,   we had several places where there's was a lot of standing water,   the river in Mells has burst its banks,  the road on the way back was flooded and we had to take a another route home.   I don't think we will be going out tomorrow as the forecast is for more rain and so far Somerset has had so much I don't know where the next lot will go.  If anyone wants some water out there just say and we will do our best to send you some.
This is my card for this weeks CD Sunday Challenge - Layer it up link here  I used the CD Winter Wonderland from My craft Studio   Volume One,
I used the backing paper from the image and then layered up the image onto silver miri card, and then  with the babble,  finally glittered the image.  I place a small dark blue ribbon on the babble,  wider blue ribbon down the side of the card, and finished off with some wonderful snowflakes which my friend Suzanne kindly made with her die-cutter machine,   Unfortunately my husband does not feel I need a die cutter machine as I don't make enough cards to warrant one.  So thanks Suzanne for making me some wonderful items.

This is a close up of the snowflakes
I was going to be in Cheese and Grain this weekend doing a Craft Fair but because I have not been in for two months due to illness I have lost my table,  I am hoping to get one in December.  I was not happy as I had one booked,  I think its best not to say any more on the subject.  It was going to hard on me doing the table with the pain I have but these new painkillers are helping to keep the pain down most of the time, but I have a lot of new things for Christmas to put on it.
Just to keep you up to date I am now being sent to see a constant but there is a 11 to 16 weeks wait for an appointment.  Roll on next year when I might find out what the pain is.
I hope you are having a lovely day, until we meet again take care
                 Hugs

Christmas cards commissioned

Hi,
These are three cards I have been asked to make,  I am putting this top card into the challenge on the Joanna Sheens Challenge blog Cold and Frosty link to blog here.   I used the Joanna Sheen's Thomas Kinkade image and put glitter on the snow to highlight the ice,  I matted it onto red card, with gold miri card behind the image,  and placed a red bow in the corner and finished it off with gold peel off's.

This is another card with another image from Joanna Sheen's Thomas Kinkade again I put glitter on the snow but put the bow down the side. I finished this card off with silver peel off's.  I matted the image on silver miri card.
This card again another Joanna Sheens's Thomas Kinkade image matted onto gold miri card on cream card,   I used a red/gold ribbon and finished it off with gold peel off's. I used glitter to highlight the snow on the image.

Until we meet again take care

Happy Birthday Vernon

Hi

Today is my husbands birthday,  with him now home all the time having retired last year,  making a card has been a little hard,  but I got there in the end.
He wont be in a good mood as he has an appointment at the Royal United Hospital in Bath to see his consultant,  we are hoping nothing has changed.
His card is a Kanban image with a gold corset which I have weaved red ribbon in and red ribbon down the side of the card,   the image I matted on red and black miri card. finished off with gold words and gold hearts design down the top side of the card.
I hope he has a good day but the weather is looking very wet and windy.

One Tatting Lesson -

Hi,

This was me and my grand Daughter Bethany yesterday having a tatting lesson,  the picture is not good but here we are tatting a snowflake.  That's my husband sat beside us, engaged in conversation while our other grand Daughter Danielle took the picture.
Not the best picture in the world but it shows we have another tatter in the making.
Until we meet again

Remembrance Day

We must never forget .......

For those who have served and those who are serving,  we must never forget those who never came home.

Sunday, 4 November 2012

Look what I woke up to.......

 Hi,

Yes its the 4th November and this is what we woke up to,  snow,  this was taken at 8.15am we had about 3 to 4 inches and still falling as I took the pictures.  Its now 12 noon and its still on the ground,  although its starting to melt.  They said there might be snow on the back edge of the heavy rain moving across the country on high ground but we were not mentioned, well we had heavy rain all night and I thought it had stopped,  ha ha it replaced itself with snow.
I hope this is it for the winter,  they say if we have a wet winter bearing in mind we had a wet summer and autumn there will be floods.  The rivers are full and the ground is sodden.  Strange it was only a few months ago we had a drought.  I doubt if we will get the lawn cut  before the winter as the ground is so wet underfoot.  At least the snow covered the weeds up but my poor plants are weighed down  with the weight of the snow
I hope you have a lovely day
Until we meet again take care.

                 Hugs
             Margaret

My tatted Fluffy Angel 23/25

Hi,
I want to introduce you to my Fluffy Angel,  a couple of weeks ago I showed you a fluffy snowflake,  well the brain cells went into overdrive  and I googled to see if there was a fluffy angel,  no could not find one.  With the brain cells working this is what they came up with.  This has been tested tatted by three lovely ladies  Wendy from umintsuru  link to her blog,   Fox from Tat-ology link to her blog  and Diane from Lace-lovin Librarian link to her blog.   They have been three of the best test tatters I could have have, to have a pattern tested worldwide is amazing and with the technology we have today this has been easy to do, so now  with there help the pattern is ready.

I used Oren Bayan Koton Perle no 8 but any thread that will fluffy can be used,   she takes 7 and three quarters of thread approximately and is 2 and half inches long with a wingspan of 4 inches approximately,
This is the fluffy Angel with beads,   I only put one bead per picot but Fox used three on each picot which look totally beautiful.
So for the first five tatters who would like a copy of the pattern please leave your name on this blog and I will send you a copy,   but I am afraid after that the pattern is now on my esty store,  which I am adding today, there is a link in the sidebar to my esty store.
They have all said she is gorgeous so I hope you will agree,  this is the moment of unveiling and the time I sit and hope she will be liked.
I have really enjoyed designing her and I have some more ideas running around the brain cells for fluffys.
News on the scan,  I had it yesterday but I have no results as yet,  just hoping they find something.
I hope you have a lovely weekend and stay dry.
                         Hugs
                      Margaret
PS Sorry all five free patterns have now gone.

Happy Halloween

Hi,
Happy Halloween,  its wet, windy, wild  and  really horrible outside and I won't be going out.  So for all those who love halloween,  have a wonderful night you will get wet if you are going trick and treating.
This is my tatted pumpkin,  I used Falling leaves no 20 and instead of a green leaf I put a leaf in the same thread after all its autumn not summer.  I might add this is really an apple designed by Mark Myers but it makes a lovely pumpkin   I must thank Joelle for finding this lovely pattern,   do pop over and have a look at her blog today with her wonderful tatting,  pumpkins and halloween bits,  link to her blog here plus there is a link on her blog for this pattern.
I was planing to do something different for today but I am having a bad day with a lot of pain and a bad headache. so please excuse me and accept my little pumpkin.
Have a lovely wet night halloweening and take care
I would like to add a note to all my American Followers I hope you are all safe from the storm,  we have seen a lot of pictures of devastation and damage,  and I hope my Canadian Friends and Followers are also safe,  as the storm is heading their way.
                           Hugs
                        Margaret
